Evaluation of the Effect of Minor Additions in the Crystallization Path of [(Fe0.5Co0.5)0.75B0.2Si0.05]100-xMx Metallic Glasses by Means of Mössbauer Spectroscopy

Understanding the crystallization of metallic glasses is fundamental in design new alloys with enhanced properties and better glass-formability. The a series Fe-based composition [(Fe0.5Co0.5)0.75B0.2Si0.05]100-xMx (M = Mo, Nb Zr) has been studied by means differential scanning calorimetry transmission Mössbauer spectroscopy. This latter technique allows following microstructural evolution through identification quantification several Fe-containing crystalline phases also changes amorphous structure at initial stages crystallization. results show that products are same for all compositions (?-Fe, Fe2B, (FeCo)23B6 paramagnetic remnant) although different relative proportions phase without Fe Zr. Moreover, addition Zr favors ?-Fe causing detrimental effect on glass forming ability, while increase Mo content up to 6 at% (FeCo)23B6. amount borides presented as measure ability this type alloys.
